RECKLINGHAUSEN (RE)
State : Nordrhein-Westfalen
Official blazon
(de)
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on June 30, 1952.
The arms show the nettle-leaf, the typical symbol of the Counts of Schaumburg(-Holstein). These ruled the city of Recklinghausen from 1476-1576. The cross is taken from the arms of the State of Köln. The largest part of the district historically belonged to Köln. The key, the symbol of St. Peter, also refers to the State of Köln, St. Peter is the patron saint of the diocese.
