Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on July 27, 1973.
Traunstein became part of Bayern in 1273 and received city rights in 1311. The oldest seal is known since 1374, but dates from the early 14th century. It already shows the two fleur-de-lis on a mountain. The mountain (Stein) is a canting element. The meaning of the flowers is not known. Even though the composition never changed since, the size and shape of the elements, as well as the colours have varied widely during the centuries. The above composition has been used since the late 19th century.
