Official blazon

  • (de)

Origin/meaning

The new arms were granted on August 13, 1976.

The cross in the new arms is the cross of the State of Köln. The eight balls represent the eight former municipalities that now form the city of Warstein.

The previous arms were granted on December 13, 1911 and are based on the oldest seal of the city, which is known since 1415. The city gate symbolises the fortified character of the city. In the gate stands St. Peter, the patron saint of the State of Köln, to which the city belonged until 1802. The black and white colours are also derived from the arms of the State of Köln, a black cross in a silver field.
