Wappen von Ehningen

Official blazon

  • (de) In blau ein goldener Entenfuß, der einen roten Apfel umklammert.

Origin/meaning

The oldest seal of Ehningen dates from the mid 16th century and shows the St. Mary, patron saint of the village.
On border stones the village used either a plough iron, or an arrow point. In the 19th century the duck's foot appears on the border stones, and, since 1844 it is also shown on the town hall.

The origin of the foot is not known. It may be derived from the old name of the village (Oendingen, supposedly derived from Ent-dingen, Ente meaning duck), or from the nickname of the villagers, Entenbrüter, or duck-breeders. The origin of the apple is not known at all. The arms were granted in 1926.
