Origin/meaning

The new arms were granted on May 14, 1979.

The arms are based on the arms of the former State of Münster, in gold a red bar. The three pillars are derived from the arms of the Lords of Zuylen, who were Lords of Anholt, and played a major role in the local history. The three pillars represent the two former districts and the city of Bocholt.

Wappen von Borken (kreis)/Arms (crest) of Borken (kreis)

The old arms were granted on May 10, 1955.

The arms are a combination of the arms of the main rulers in the district. The first quarter shows the arms of the State of Münster, as the largest part of the district belonged to Münster. The second quarter shows the arms of the Lords of Zuylen, as Lords of Anholt. The third quarter shows the arms of the Lords of Werth, and in the fourth the arms of the Lords of Gemen.
