GMUND AM TEGERNSEE
State : Bayern
District (Kreis) : Miesbach
Additions : 1978 Dürnbach
Official blazon
In Blau über silbernen Wellen zwei mit den Stielen verschlungene silberne Seeblätter, überhöht von einer goldenen Krone mit lilienförmigen Blättern.
Origin/meaning
The two water lilly leaves are derived from the oldest arms of the Benedictine Abbey of Tegernsee. The abbey ruled the town since the 10th century until the early 19th century. Later the abbey used a quartered shield with three crowns in the first and fourth quarter and the leaves in the other two quarters (see Tegernsee).
The present arms were granted on June 2, 1954 and combine the two elements from the arms of the abbey. The base symbolises the Tegernsee lake.
