Origin/meaning

The arms show the local St. Martin's church and had been used for several centuries. The arms were officially granted on March 22, 1898 and again in 1990.

In 1948 the local council decided to abolish the arms and replace them with a more modern symbol, showing the importance of the industry in the town, see below. The buildings represent the iron oxide and paint factories in the city. The arms were abolished again in 1990, when the old arms were restored.
