RASTEDE

State : Niedersachsen
District (Kreis) : Ammerland

Wappen von Rastede

Official blazon

(de)

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1954.

The arms are based on the legend of Count Friedrich of Rastede and the Battle of the lions in Goslar. The emperor drew with the blood of the defeated lion two lines on the shield of the count. Theses typical lines, known as Ammerlander fesses, can be seen in different arms in the area, such as in the arms of the Ammerland District and Westerstede.

Between 1934 and 1954 only the lion was used in the seal of the town, not in any arms.
