Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on December 10, 1993.

The village developed after the woods were cleared by orders of the Counts of Schwarzenburg-Käfernburg in the 13th century. The name Gräfenroda also means clearing (Rodung) of the counts (Grafen). This is also symbolised in the arms by the crown in the upper half and the tree trunk in the base. The wavy bar symbolises the Gera river, that runs through the municipality.
