Origin/meaning
The arms were granted in 1970 after the merging of the two former municipalities Grossgartach and Schluchtern.
The arms show the symols of St. Pancratius and St. Laurentius, patron saints of Schluchtern and Grossgartach respectively.
The oldest seal of Grossgartach (dating from 1379, the oldest village seal in Württemberg) showed St. Laurentius with the grill (on which he was roasted to death). Later seals only showed the grill. All seals of Schluchtern showed St. Pancratius with the sword.
