Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1931.

Laatzen belonged since the 10^th century to a territory known as the 'Kleine Freien'. In 1512 the area became part of the Duchy of Celle-Lauenburg and the lion is the symbol of the Welfen dynasty, to which the Dukes of Celle-Lauenburg belonged.

The lower half shows the Leine river flowing through green fields.
