Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on February 4, 1982.

The upper half of the shield shows the house of the owner of the local water mill, which was operational from around 1700-1973. The house, a typical wooden-truss house, also symbolises the former agricultural character of the municipality. Trittau was the centre of a large agricultural region. The house also symbolises the former Trittau castle or Trittau Estate, which probably was built in a similar style, and which also housed the local council until it was destroyed in 1775. The lower half shows the Bille and Mühlenau rivers in the municipality between the green fields and forests.
