Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1955.

The arms show in the upper part of the arms a typical decoration of the farms in the area, two horse-heads. The lower part shows a canting fish, as a symbol for the main source of income for the town prior to 1928. In 1928 the Wümme river was canalised and fishing became of less importance for the local economy.

Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
