UELSEN

State : Niedersachsen
District (Kreis) : Grafschaft Bentheim
Samtgemeinde : Samtgemeinde Uelsen

Wappen von Uelsen/Arms (crest) of Uelsen
Official blazon
German blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The town is first mentioned as having a council in the 13th century and gradually became a possession of the Counts of Bentheim. In the middle of the 17th century the first seal was made. It showed three holly leaves in a crowned shield. The holly, (Hülst in the North-West German dialect) is a canting symbol. The arms thus never changed since.

The municipality nowadays uses the arms again placed in a shield as a mis-interpretation of the true arms :

Wappen von Uelsen/Arms (crest) of Uelsen
Wappen von Uelsen/Coat of arms (crest) of Uelsen

The arms by Hupp in the Kaffee Hag albums +/- 1925
