Origin/meaning
Monheim received city rights in 1320 from Count Ludwig of Oettingen. The oldest seal dates from the same time and shows already the moon and crescent. The moon (Mond) is a canting element. The composition of the arms thus has not changed since. The colours on the other hand have changed regularly. In 1605 showed Siebmacher the colours as red in silver, the colours of the Counts of Oettingen. In 1812 the colours were officially described as gold in red, since 1821 the colours, however, are gold in blue.
