Official blazon

(de) In Gold ein silberner Schrägbalken, belegt mit einem gestümmelten roten Ast und begleitet von je einer schrägliegenden, vierendigen blauen Hirschstange.

Origin/meaning

The city was founded in the late 13^th century, but before 1283, by the Counts of Veringen-Nellenburg. After they became extinct the city became a possession of the Lords of Tengen, who sold the city to Austria in 1465.

The seals until the 16^th century only show the canting stick (Stock), which was augmented in the 16^th century with the two antlers from the arms of the Counts of Veringen-Nellenbach. The arms thus have never changed since, except that in the 19^th century and until 1937 an angel was used as a supporter. The colours were officially described in 1898.
