NORDENHAM

District (Kreis) : Wesermarsch

Wappen von Nordenham

Official blazon

(de)

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on January 16, 1912.

Nordenham was the name of an estate which was joined in 1908 with the village of Atens. The new municipality was renamed Nordenham and received city status in the same year from the Grand-Duke of Oldenburg.

The arms combine the eagle of the Ostfriesland region, with the arms of the Grand-Duchy of Oldenburg. The anchor is a symbol for the harbour.

In the 1930s Hupp showed the arms with the anchor rope in red and black fangs of the eagle (see below left)
