KEMPEN-KREFELD (KK)
State : Nordrhein-Westfalen
Additions : 1929 : Kempen, Krefeld
Incorporated into : 1974 Viersen
Official blazon
(de)
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on May 13, 1932.
The arms are a combination of the arms of the counties/duchies of Jülich and Geldern, as well as the state of Köln (cross). A large part of the district belonged historically to the county, later duchy of Geldern, which is represented by the golden lion. The black lion is the lion of Jülich, another duchy to which a large part of the district belonged.
The arms resemble the arms of the former district Geldern and the Dutch province of Gelderland. In 1815 the territory of Obergeldern was divided between the Netherlands and Prussia.
