German In Blau auf einem mit einem silbernen Wellenbalken belegten grünen Boden stehend ein rot bedachter silberner Rundturm mit umlaufender, rot gedeckter silberner Ringmauer, die ein grünes Feld einschließt.

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on March 18, 1476 by Philipp Count of Henneberg and Bishop of Bamberg.

The arms simply show a fortified city wall for the city itself and a small river, the Schorgast. The arms were not much used in the 18th and 19th century, but were formally restored in 1953, as many different variations exist, such as the one shown by Hupp in the 1920s.
