Wappen von Tangermünde

Official blazon

In Silber ein golden bewehrter, rot gezungter roter Adler, die Sachsen besteckt mit je einer silbernen Rose mit goldenem Butzen.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on September 8, 1995.

The arms are based on the oldest known seal of the city, dating from 1344. The seal shows the eagle of Brandenburg as at the time the area was part of Brandenburg. The roses on the tip of the wings are probably a mistake, they were originally just feathers, but were later transformed into flowers.

The arms have never changed since, although the city did not use the arms during the French occupation (around 1810) and at the beginning of the 20th century.
