Origin/meaning

Lehrte became a city in 1898 and the arms were granted in 1927.

The lion is derived from the seal of the combined communities between Hannover, Hildesheim and Peine, dating from the 13^th century. The lion is combined with the cross, that symbolises the fact the Lehrte is at an important railway crossing.
