Wappen von Gröningen

Official blazon

(de) Gespalten von Silber und Rot; darin drei Barsche pfahlweise in verwechselten Farben.

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1535 and again on March 20, 1995.

The arms are based on the divided arms of Halberstadt, as the city was a possession of the Bishop of Halberstadt. The meaning of the three fish is not clear. The arms were granted in 1535 by Cardinal Albrecht von Brandernburg, Bishop of Halberstadt. In the same year Kochstedt received arms in a very similar design from the bishop.
