Heraldry of the World Civic heraldry of Germany - Deutsche Wappen (Gemeindewappen/Kreiswappen) |
RHEIN-LAHN KREIS (EMS)
State : Rheinland-Pfalz
Additions : 1969 St. Goarshausen/Loreleykreis, Unterlahnkreis
Origin/meaning :
The arms were granted on January 26, 1970.
The lion was part of the arms of both the two old districts. Similarly many very influential noble families from the area used a lion in their arms; f.e. the Counts of Diez, Counts/Princes of Nassau, Counts of Katzenelnbogen and the Princes of the Pfalz. The colours represent the former districts.
