BORNHAUSEN

State : Niedersachsen
District (Kreis) : Goslar (until 1974 Hildesheim)
Incorporated into : 1974 Seesen

Wappen von Bornhausen

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were adopted by the local council on February 3, 1969 and granted by the State of Niedersachsen on July 10, 1969.

The ibex in the arms is taken from the arms of the Lords von Steinbeck (canting: Steinbock is ibex), who ruled the village of Bornhausen. Their arms can be seen on one of the water mills in the village. The water mills itself are symbolised by the wheel in the lower half.

The colours are those of the former Kingdom of Braunschweig, to which the area historically belonged.
