Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on March 10, 1978.

The red and gold are derived from the arms of the Lords and the Abbey of Grafschaft, which both had many possessions in the area. The circle symbolises the letter O, the four rectangles on the circle represent the four valleys in the municipality, those of the Ruhr, Neger, Elpe and Medebach rivers.
