Origin/meaningThe arms were officially granted on July 29, 1819 and again in 1928. The arms show St. Martin, patron saint of the city, cutting his cloak for a beggar. In 1819 suddenly a new shield appears. The new arms show in the upper part the lion of Bohemia, and in the lower half a symbol looking like a capital letter H. The meaning thereof is not known. These arms were sometimes used in the 19th century and also from 1920-1928.
