Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on May 4, 1981.
The upper half showf the arms of Julius Echter von Mespelbrunn, Prince-Bishop of Würzburg from 1573-1617 and founded of the Juliusspital hospital. The village was a possession of the hospital from 1666-1803.
The lower half shows a wheel for the former importance of water mills in the Saale river. The colours of the lower half are those of the Lords of Thüngen, who owned most of the area until 1666.
