Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on December 29, 1959.
As there were no historical seals or images of the arms, the arms were designed in 1959. The arms show two symbols for the main economic activities in the area in medieval times; the upper part of a shepherd's staff (for sheep farming) and a spear point for hunting. The colours are those of the Counts of Arnsberg, as the area belonged to the Arnsberg County.
