Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on March 4, 1927.

The name Nienborg means New Castle and is the translation of the Castrum Novum founded at the end of the 12^th century by Herman II Bishop of Münster. The castle used a seal showing the castle itself since the end of the 13^th century. The above arms were based on this seal and coloured in the colours of the State of Münster.
