Previous arms
The arms were granted in 1952 and are based on the composition on the local seals since 1816. The castle is most likely the Hattstein castle near the village, built in the late 12th century. The colours silver and red are also derived from the arms of the Lords of Hattstein. The pine trees indicate the former large forests in the area, and are canting for the old name of the village Waldschmieden (Wald=forest).
