Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on October 29, 1557.
In the middle of the 16th century, Georg Ludwig v. Seinsheim fortified the town with a moat and barriers. After the town received the right to hold a market in 1557, a wall with towers and gates was built. At the same time that the town became a market town, it received its arms showing St. George as the protector of knighthood and symbol of national peace and the stylised waves representing the town's position on the river Main.
