Origin/meaning

The arms were granted òn March 17, 1960.

The red shell in the base of the shield is derived from the arms of the Lords of Eyb, who played an important role in the local history since 1518. The upper half shows a Lutheran rose, a symbol for the importance of the town for the Lutheran church. In the town is the only theological college of the Lutheran Church in Bayern and also has a large Lutheran convent since 1854.

Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
