Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on March 5, 1957.
The arms are based on the seal of the Amt Balve from 1550. The upper part shows St. Peter, patron saint of the State of Köln, to which the area historically belonged. The lower half shows the cross of the State of Köln and the eagle of the Counts of Arnsberg. The area was part of the County Arnsberg until 1368.
