Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on August 29, 1433.
The arms show the Imperial eagle and the lion of Bohemia and were granted by Emperor Sigismund. Görlitz belonged to Bohemia until 1635, when the city became part of Sachsen. The crown is the imperial crown.
On October 2, 1536, Görlitz received new arms from Emperor Charles V. These arms quartered the eagle and lion, and with an inescutcheon of Austria and the imperial crown.
Both arms have been used at the same time, but after the Econd World War only the above arms are being used.
Both arms can also be used with a crest of the Bohemian lion in front of a wing.
