Origin/meaning

The arms were officially adopted on April 10, 1956.

Ingelfingen became a town in 1323 and a city in 1334. The oldest known seal of the city, which is known from the early 16^th century, but which is about a century older, already shows the staff. The staff is most likely the symbol for St. Nicholas, the patron saint of the local church. It can also be a symbol for the Comburg Abbey, as the abbey had much influence in the city. Even though the arms at such did not change since, the staff is often seen facing left instead of right.
