BISCHOFSGRÜN

State : Bayern
District (Kreis) : Bayreuth
Additions : 1976 Wülfersreuth

Wappen von Bischofsgrün

Official blazon

In Silber schräg gekreuzt ein schwarzer Bergmannshammer und ein schwarzes Glasblasrohr mit goldenem Glas; darüber ein roter Hirschrumpf.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on July 2, 1971.

The main economic activities in the village were for many centuries mining and glass manufacturing. This is symbolised by the tools in the lower half of the arms. The deer is a canting symbol for the Lords of Hirschberg (deer-mountain), the oldest known rulers of the village. They owned the village until 1360, when it was sold to the Margraves of Nürnberg. The colours are those of the margraves of Nürnberg.
