Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on May 5, 1997.
The tree is a canting element, an alder (Erle in German) for the first part of the name. The bend symbolises a border-pole. The village historically was on the border between Sachsen (later Sachsen-Weimar) and the State of Mainz (later Prussia).
