Origin/meaning

Vörden was founded as a village near the castle of the Bishops of Osnabrück in the early 14th century. In 1391 a council is mentioned, but the oldest seal of the council dates from the early 15th century. It shows the wheel of the State of Osnabrück, but with fewer spokes (compare also Melle). The colours are also the colours of the State of Osnabrück.
