Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on October 30, 1975.
Moers received city rights in 1300 by King Albrecht I. The city developed around the castle of the counts of Moers. The arms are based on a seal of the city from the 14th century. The castle is the castle of the counts of Moers, the black bar in gold is the arms of the counts. Until the 17th century the arms of the counts are placed in front of the castle. In the 17th century the present arms first appear. The arms have been used for some centuries, but were not officially granted until 1975.
Seal of the city from around 1900. |
