Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The lion in the upper part is derived from the arms of the Lords of Sayn, in the Middle Ages Lords of Steineroth. The upper left half shows the bends, derived from the arms of the Lords of Ottenstein, who had several possessions in the municipality in the 16th and 17th century. The base shows some basalt rocks, which are typical for the region, and basalt mining has played a major role in the local economic development.
