State : Sachsen
District (Kreis) : Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge (until 2008 Sächsische Schweiz)
Additions : 1939 Pötzscha, Zeichen; 1994 Dorf Wehlen
Official blazon
(de) Ein einmastiges blaues rahgetakeltes Schiff auf weißem Hintergrund.
Origin/meaning
The ship refers to the importance of shipping and fishing on the Elbe river. The fleur-de-lis refers to the Lords of Köckritz, who ruled the city in the 15th century. Their arms showed three golden fleur-de-lis in blue. During their rule Wehlen received city rights.
The arms are known as such from a seal from 1657, see image below.

All later seals and images have shown the ship with the fleur-de-lis. The colours, however, changed during the years. The current arms were adopted in 1995.
