Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on November 28, 1983.
Mönkeberg was a small village until the late 19th century when neighbouring Kiel became a major naval port. Some of the new naval buildings were constructed on Mönkeberg territory. In 1903 the major beacons for the Kiel harbour were constructed in the village. In 1979 one of the old beacons was replaced by a large, 26 m high, structure, which became the symbol of the village and was placed in the arms in 1983.
