Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on June 8, 1995.
The bull's head is the symbol for Mecklenburg. The griffin and the chequered field are derived from the arms of the Dukes of Pommern-Wolgast. The district historically was part of Mecklenburg and Pommern. The silver tower is taken from the arms of the city of Demmin. The open door symbolises the hospitality of the people in the district.
