SULZBÜRG

State : Bayern
District (Kreis) : Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz
Incorporated into : 1976 Mühlhausen (Oberpfalz)

Wappen von Sulzbürg/Arms (crest) of Sulzbürg
Official blazon
German blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on June 6, 1544 by Emperor Charles V.

The meaning of the arms is based on the wrong ethymology of the name and can be considered canting. The fish on the platter ('eine Sulz von Fischen') symbolises the first part, the small mountain (Berg, from Sulzberg), the latter part of the name. Even though the composition never changed, there are many wrong images, as with wrong and different colours, without the mountain and sometimes with a crown. Only in 1966 the arms were formally described and adopted again.
