Origin/meaning
Uchte was founded around 1295 by the counts of Hoya as a fortified border town. Started as a fortress, it became a town in the late 15th century, but no seals or arms are known until the second half of the 17th century. The seal shows the arms, with the exception of the letter V instead of a U, which comes from the Latin lettering. The claws are taken from the arms of the counts of Hoya, the U is the initial of the town.
As none of the municipalities incorporated into Uchte in 1974 used arms, the old arms were continued by the new municipality.
Seal from around 1900 |
