Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on June 24, 2005.
The lighthouse is taken from the arms of the former Südtondern district, as the new Amt is nearly covering the whole area of the former district. The colours have changed from red to blue to symbolise the sea and the sky. The six beams symbolise the six entities that merged in 2008 to form the new Amt.
The bicoloured bend symbolises the dikes and the so-called Ochsenweg, a formerly very important trading road (mainly for cattle) from Denmark to the South, used until the middle of the 19th century. The green part symbolises the marshlands and agriculture, the silver the many watercourses and water areas in the area. The golden field symbolises the dunes, rapeseed fields and fertile soils.
The cauldron symbolises the Frisian people. It symbolises fortitude but also the fraternity of the Frisians. In addition, the Frisian colors (red, blue and yellow) are included in the coat of arms.
