Origin/meaningThe arms were officially granted on February 3, 1994. The lion's claw is taken from the lion in the arms of the Princes of Reuss, which ruled the area for many centuries. The cross is made of jute and symbolises the importance of manufacturing of jute in the city. The cross also forms the letter T, the initial of the city. During DDR times the arms below were used, adopted in 1975. The arms symbolise agriculture and the textile- and furniture industries in the town.
