District (Kreis) : Passau (until 1973 Vilshofen)

Wappen von Windorf/Arms (crest) of Windorf
Official blazon
German In Silber ein steigender roter Wolf.
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were first used in 1840, when a wolf in a shield was shown on the newly made mayor's chain. In 1812 the town did not use its own arms or seals. In 1835 the local seal showed the lion, but without a shield. All later seals and images have shown the above arms. Initially with the wolf in natural colours, since the late 19th century in red.

The wolf itself is the symbol of the State of Passau to which the town belonged until 1803.

Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
