Origin/meaning

Hiltpoltstein received town rights in 1417, but the oldest seal is known from the early 17^th century. The main shield is derived from the arms of the medieval Lords of Hiltpoltstein. The escutcheon shows the arms of Nürnberg, as the city owned the town and surrounding area since 1503.
