Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on July 15, 1925 and new arms were granted on December 18, 1991.

The old arms are those of the Croy-Renty family, with an escutcheon. The family rule dthe village for a long time. The inescutcheon shows the arms of France-Albert and refers to the fact that Charles of Croy married Louise de Albret, sister of John, King of Navarra and great-grandfather of King Henry IV of France.

The new arms are divided into 6 pieces, representing the six former municipalities, and in the centre a tower, taken from the arms of Tournai, as the region historically was dependent on Tournai.
